Last night we hired the movie Eddie the Eagle on Apple TV and watched it as a family. The Winter Olympics are in the air and so it was an appropriate time to watch such a movie.

My wife and I had seen this movie before and knew just how good it is. In case you’re unaware of his story, Michael ‘Eddie the Eagle’ Edwards is a British man who as a boy dreamed of gong to the Olympics. However he had no particular sports gifting. He had knee issues as a child and spent time in hospital. His father thought he was wasting his time, but his mother always encouraged him in his dream.

Long story short, Eddie gets to go to the Olympics and along the way becomes a worldwide sensation, as well as a national hero in the UK. I was only a young boy when the Calgary Olympics in 1988 took place but I still distinctly recall watching and reading about the fascinating Eddie the Eagle.

My point in this is to never give up on that dream burning deep down inside. And I mean that deep down dream. We can all have surface dreams of winning the Superbowl, of being on the pro golf tour, or being one of the world’s top models, but I am talking about that dream that sits deep down inside that no matter what you do, you cannot get away from it. It burns day after day, year after year.

In fact we purposely hired this movie for our children to inspire them in whatever dreams God has placed deep inside them. it also shows them the power of never giving up. We are always teaching them to dream big and be persistent, as good things don’t come easy, and thankfully Hollywood made such a movie to inspire them. They all sat perfectly still for two hours watching his incredible story.

Sometimes we all need a motivator to help us not to give up. Eddie the Eagle might just inspire you to keep going, too.
